27 at his home in Phoenix, from complications of surgery. He was 73 and had moved to Phoenix from Canton five years ago. In 1959, he got a job as a teacher at Walker Elementary School, Wayne, and when he left, the school was renamed Walker-Winter Elementary in his honor. He went on to become principal at Franklin Junior High School, then principal at Wayne Memorial High School, where he retired in 1990. He then was elected to the school board and served as its president for five years, retiring in 1995.

Mr. Winter was born in Pittsburgh and served in the Navy in Europe and North Africa in World War II. Returning from the war, he received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Eastern Michigan University. He also taught education in night classes at Eastern. Mr.

Winter had a wide range of hobbies, but almost all of them ended up having to do with his cooking for the family he loved. "He did it every day cooked for the family, cooked for his wife," his daughter Kathleen Carr said Monday. "He enjoyed himself, and we all enjoyed it, too." He had a quarter-acre vegetable garden, and the bounty he grew there ended up on the family table. He liked to hunt and fish, and that, too, fed his family. "We had big game parties where we'd eat everything from mountain lion to bear," his daughter said.

"And we would always eat those fish." In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife of 48 years, Maggie; another daughter, Julie; three grandchildren, and four brothers. A memorial service will be held in January in Detroit at a time and place to be decided. The family suggests memorial donations to St. Vincent dePaul, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 4475 Old Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Margaret Salinas-Sensini Nurse entertained her family Margaret Bommarito SalinasSensini, a nurse who brought solace to people who were ill and rollicking good times to her family, died of cancer Oct. 28 at her home in Ft. Myers, Fla. She was 71 and had moved to Florida from Detroit 10 years ago when she retired.

For 30 years, she worked as a licensed practical nurse in the Detroit area, starting at Hutzel Hospital, Detroit, where she worked in the pediatric and surgical units in the early '60s. She then went into private nursing, caring for hundreds of patients in hospitals and homes. "She will be remembered by many in the Detroit area as the person who comforted their family members when they were ill or near death," her son Peter Salinas wrote in a tribute to his mother. Mrs. Salinas-Sensini regularly worked six or seven days a week while rearing her two sons as a single mother, but what her children remember are the great parties she had and how much fun she was.

"She was a fantastic cook," her son said Monday. "She would be cooking all day. She'd make special stuff. She was not only a good Italian cook, but also made excellent Chinese. And there was the conversation and the fun.

"People would come over and we'd all have fun and the dinner would go on and on "And she'd take us to the concerts on Belle Isle, and at the end, you'd put your feet in the Detroit River to change your luck." Mrs. Salinas-Sensini was born in Detroit, graduated from Eastern High School and took her nursing training at the Detroit Practical Nursing Center at Northern High School. In addition to her son, survivors include her husband of 21 years, Joseph Sensini; another son, Vincent Salinas; a stepson, Danny Sensini; five grandchildren, and a brother.
