Spring’s first full moon will be visible to Brits this weekend, also known as the “Pink Moon” - and the exact date and time it should be at its most visible has been revealed. The stunning lunar spectacle will rise at around 9pm on April 13, reaching its peak at 1.22am in the UK, the Royal Observatory Greenwich says. However, it will also appear to be bright and full on Friday and Sunday too.

Full moons occur each month after completing the lunar phase cycle every 29.5 days. This April, the moon will not be classed as a supermoon, but a micromoon. Disappointingly, despite having the world pink in its name, the moon won’t actually appear to be a different colour.

Each month when a full moon occurs, it is given a name. This tradition is seen across different cultures, with native Americans naming the moons based upon each season. The Pink Moon is named after a species of early blooming wild flower in the US, which has the colour pink in its variety.

However, other cultures have named April’s full moon as the sprouting grass moon, the egg moon, and the fish moon.

The full moon this month is also known as the Paschal Moon which is used to determine the date of Easter each year. In 2025, Easter falls on Sunday, April 20, the following weekend.

Due to the lunar event being a micromoon, it will appear to be slightly dimmer and smaller this weekend. However, many people will not necessarily notice the change. This is a result of the Moon being at its furthest point from Earth, opposed to a supermoon, when it's at its closest to us.

Royal Museums Greenwich has listed the full moon dates still to come in 2025:

    • Pink Moon - April 13
    • Flower Moon - May 12
    • Strawberry Moon - June 11
    • Buck Moon - July 10
    • Sturgeon Moon - August 9
    • Corn/Harvest Moon - September 7
    • Hunter's Moon - October 7
    • Beaver Moon - November 5
    • Cold Moon - December 4
