LeBron James continued to defy Father Time by scoring his 40,000th career point. The Chosen One, who is nearing 11,000 assists, couldn’t lead the Lakers to victory against the Denver Nuggets, losing 114-124. “They have our number,” James said.
Check out how NBA Twitter reacted to his historic achievement, one that will likely take decades for any other player to even come close.

LeBron has more career points than Larry Bird and Magic Johnson combined

Congratulations to LeBron James for being the first and only player in NBA history to score 40,000 points! I’m so glad I was here to witness such an incredible feat! @KingJames pic.twitter.com/IdfjsrSLKJ

A player breaking into the league today would need to average 25 points a game for 1600 games, or 19.51 seasons, to get to where LeBron is right now.
Good luck with that. BK

LeBron saved the Lakers franchise (still atrociously run with him there) to an immeasurable extent.

As Michael Malone said after the Nuggets won last year's championship, the Nuggets are the Lakers' daddy. They've now beaten the Lakers 8 straight. 6 of the last 7 Denver wins came in games that were close in the 4th quarter. I THOUGHT LEBRON WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE GOAT!?!?

For LeBron, 40,000 is an astonishing longevity achievement. No career-threatening injuries/surgeries. Revolutionary commitment to nutrition/supplements/fitness. Love for hooping remains all-time high. He has now played 15,000 more minutes than Jordan did. Just incredible.

We don’t give Darvin Ham enough credit, this is a picture of him guarding Lebron James in 2004. 20 Years later and Darvin Ham still continues to stop Lebron from succeeding. pic.twitter.com/3HtwxSwKGa

Nuggets beat the Lakers opening night, Kobe statue night, and now LeBron 40k night. You are getting a free Jaxson Hayes t-shirt as the promotion next season at the absolute most.

Rob Pelinka burned another year of LeBron so he can chase undersized non-superstars in the off-season because LeBron won a title with one 10 years ago. You watched last year’s WCF and made no deals at the deadline? Malpractice.
