Paris Olympics 2024 — Day 14 latest
Sha’Carri Richardson won her first Olympic gold medal today, bringing the Americans from behind with a stunning anchor leg to lead her nation to glory in the 4x100m relay.
But there was disappointment for the United States in the men’s relay, as Canada claimed an unexpected gold ahead of South Africa and Britain. The U.S. were disqualified after botching their first baton exchange.
It wasn't all bad for the American men at Stade de France, however, as Rai Benjamin won the 400m hurdles final, topping Norwegian defending gold medalist Karsten Warholm.
Earlier today, host nation France was defeated by Spain in the men’s soccer final, while the United States women’s basketball team thrashed Australia to record its 60th straight Olympic victory and advance to Sunday’s gold medal game.
Medal table | How to follow
Boxing: Algerian celebrations continue for Khelif
The Imane Khelif fight ended over an hour ago, it’s after midnight in Paris, and there is still a huge throng of Algerian fans here at Roland Garros celebrating.

Boxing: Algerian fans celebrate Khelif's gold medal
The Algerian fans are not leaving. They have all flocked down to the front rows for the medal ceremony for Imane Khelif, which is about to start.
Beach volleyball: Brazil's Ramos and Lisboa win gold!
And that's game! Brazil's duo of Ana Patricia Ramos and Duda Lisboa finish with a perfect record at the Paris Olympics and win the gold medal 2-1 against Canada's Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson.
Canada claims the silver, while Swiss duo Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner took the bronze after defeating Australia earlier Friday 2-0.
Boxing: Imane Khelif wins gold after gender controversy
Algeria's Imane Khelif has defeated China's Yang Liu in the women's 66kg gold medal bout, emerging victorious from a trying week that saw her become one of the stories of the Olympics.
Elsewhere, in the men's 92kg final, Uzbekistan's Lazizbek Mullojonov defeated Loren Alfonso of Azerbaijan to claim gold.
Beach volleyball: Brazil leading gold medal tiebreak
A big error by Canada's Brandie Wilkerson sending the ball into the net. It's now 10-5 for Brazil. Remember, we only go to 15....
And now some smack talk!! John Lennon's "Imagine" players over the speakers at Eiffel Tower Stadium as Brazil and Canada get a little spicy after that last point. A lot of yelling — uncharacteristic for this sport — but all smiles from Wilkerson after hearing the crowd's reaction to the song.
Beach volleyball: Canada force tiebreaker in gold medal match!
TIEBREAKERRRRR!! Canada absolutely stole that second set and steamrolled Brazil 21-12. We're into a 15-point winner-takes-all decider.
Brazil looks tired and beat, while the Canadians still seem to have gas in the tank. This is only surprising given how many more games the Canadian duo had to play — they came into the playoffs through a lucky loser game, while Brazil won all their games in the round robin.

Basketball: France beats Belgium, advances to women's gold medal game!
France has beaten Belgium 81-75 in overtime in women's basketball to advance to Sunday's gold medal game on home soil!
Gabby Williams scored nine of France's 15 points in OT, while Belgium's Julie Vanloo missed a three that would have tied the score at 78 with 32 seconds left.
Both the men's and women's gold medal games in basketball feature the same matchup: Host nation France taking on heavy favorite United States.
Beach volleyball: Canada leading second set after dropping first
WHAT A FINAL. The line drive of Brazil's Duda Lisboa is something to be seen, but Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson are digging with everything they have.
Dude Lisboa does seem to be fighting through an injury to her toe, which could hinder her digging abilities down the stretch here. Canada leads 15-11 in the second set. They need to win this set to force a tiebreaker.
Handball: Denmark beats Slovenia, advances to gold medal game
Denmark have edged Slovenia 31-30 in men's handball to advance to the gold medal game.
This is Denmark's third straight appearance in the final, after taking gold over France in 2016 but losing to them in 2021.
They'll face Germany in Sunday's final this time, while Slovenia, who are seeking their first-ever medal in men's handball, will face Spain in the bronze medal match.
Beach volleyball: Brazil take first set in gold medal game
PHEW. What a set. After back-and-forth set points, Brazil finally closes it out to take the opening frame 26-24 over Canada.
Basketball: Belgium forces overtime against France!
With less than a minute left in the semifinal, France fouled Belgium's Julie Vanloo on a three-point attempt. She promptly drilled all three free throws to cut France's lead to three.
A France turnover and a Emma Meesseman (pictured above) three later and the game is tied!
France has one last shot to win the game in regulation, but Valeriane Ayayi's three from the corner doesn't drop and we're headed to overtime!
This is just the third women's knockout game in Olympic history to go to overtime.

Basketball: France closing in on berth in women's gold medal game
France are leading Belgium 66-60 with just under a minute left in regulation in the semifinals of the women's basketball tournament. The home supporters at Bercy Arena are going nuts. France has hit some clutch free throws down the stretch here, going 12-for-13 in the fourth quarter alone.
The winner of this one advances to face the United States in Sunday's final.
Beach volleyball: Using your head
Ana Patricia Ramos just dug a ball with her head — you love to see it.
Brazil is within one of tying up this first set of the women's gold medal match.
Beach volleyball: Canada leading Brazil early
Wow! Canada has taken a 7-2 lead early in this women's gold medal game over Brazil, forcing them to take a timeout. The defensive prowess of the Canadians is already putting Ana Patricia Ramos and Duda Lisboa on their heels.
Track and field: Sweet, sweet victory for Canada
Our live coverage is quickly going to turn too Canadian. I'm currently watching the Canadian men's 4x100m relay team receive their medals and sing the national anthem from atop the podium.
It must feel even sweeter for them to have the medals around their necks after America's Noah Lyles' comments about the US/Canada rivalry, which Donovan Bailey, the former Canadian Olympian who won gold in the 4x100m relay in 1996, had some choice words about, saying, "There’s easy way to humble someone, and that's by spanking them!"
Beach volleyball: Women's gold medal match underway
Brazil's duo of Duda Santos Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos are the top-ranked team in the world in women's beach volleyball, so it'll be an uphill climb from the beginning for their Canadian opponents. In the last five games between these two teams, Brazil has taken four of the matches.
Early communication and splitting the court will be key for the Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson. They have the #1 defence in the tournament though – Melissa top for blocks, Brandie top for digs.

Taekwondo: Gold for Hungary's Marton, USA's Teachout with bronze
Over in the women's -67kg taekwondo competition at the Grand Palais, we have an 18-year-old gold medalist!
Hungary's Viviana Marton, in the blue, seeded 12th, beat third seed Aleksandra Perisic of Serbia 2-0 in the final.
Joint bronze medals to United States' Kristina Teachout and Belgium's Sarah Chaari.
Boxing: China's Wu, Uzbekistan's Muydinkhujaev take gold
Two gold medals to tell you about in the boxing at Roland Garros!
Uzbekistan's Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev beat Mexican Marco Alonso Verde 5-0, unanimous decision, in the men's 71kg class.
Alonso Verde scraped past Britain's Lewis Richardson in a controversial split decision, 3-2, in the semifinal. Not quite a robbery but a surprising decision, to be sure. Richardson, and American Omari Jones are currently collecting their bronze medals on the podium.
Richardson, as he should, is smiling widely as he bites his chunk of metal. Congratulations to him.
Then in the women's 50kg final, China's Wu Yu beat Turkey's Buse Naz Cakiroglu 4-1 by split decision. More boxing bouts to come this evening, too!
What a stage
Hell of a place to fight for a gold medal, in the women's beach volleyball.
